The East, with joy in it
东方乐游 — a small team making China approachable, deeply and respectfully.
OrientJoy began with a simple observation: travelers kept arriving in China with wonder in their plans and anxiety in their pockets.
The wonder was earned: five thousand years of continuous civilization, food cultures deep enough to spend a life in, cities living fifty years into the future. The anxiety was earned too: a language that rewards a guide, payments that changed shape faster than guidebooks printed, and a travel industry that too often sold China through a bus window.
We built OrientJoy around the gap between those two feelings. Orient — the old word for the direction of sunrise, the East as a place of arrival rather than otherness. Joy — 乐, the character at the heart of 乐游, travel as delight rather than endurance.
Concretely, that means small groups led by locals who grew up in the story; itineraries drawn around you rather than sold off a shelf; wellness traditions met respectfully with licensed practitioners; and the unglamorous machinery of a good trip — foreign-card payments, 24-hour English replies, honest cancellation terms — built in from the start.
Our wellness journeys began the same way the rest did: travelers kept asking. What is tuina, really? Can I try qigong without pretending to be a monk? So we built the gentlest possible door into those traditions — and kept it a room inside the travel house, not a clinic on its own.
